Bobbi Brown Bronze Tortoise Shell Eye Palette Review
NOTE: I did not buy this palette but swatched it and chatted with the Bobbi Brown lady for some time - so this is my thoughts on the product:
This palette looks a feel expensive. The editorial is beauty and makes you want to BUY BUY BUY because its soooooo pretty. But how does that translate into the product. Lets see…
You get 8 different eyeshadows in different finishes. At first glance i noticed it need more matte shades - but i always think that! The shadows are obviously smaller than the standard bobbi brown eyeshadows but thats understandable.
The matte eyeshadows swathed very smoothly as normal for bobbi brown. The sparkle eyeshadows went on glittery but VERY sheer which is a NO NO in my book. The metallic eyeshadows were highly pigmented which was nice. Lastly the shimmer eyeshadows went on sheerly - which for the price i wasn't overly impressed with.
For me this product has a killer editorial but lacks something in reality. For the price you pay i expected more pigment. But this is a personal preference - sheer eyeshadows do make for a more mistake proof makeup - so depending on your skill - this might be a good thing.
Overall this isn't a product i would spend my money on but i know a lot of people will love it.
Something of note - in Bobbi Browns first makeup books she talks about her love of everything MATTE. She talks about matte eyeshadows and her not liking shimmer on the cheeks... How times change eh.

So happy to see a review on this. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't like shimmer on cheeks? Ha ha, those shimmer brick things are certainly very shimmery! x
ReplyDeleteAwww I wanted this too :( But I like good pigmentation and matte shadows too.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful of your review...I really got impressed by the editorial...and for the first time I was thinking in buying Boobi Brown eyeshados....I will swacht them in the counter but if they are as you say they are (which I'm sure it will occur), then it will be a NO NO for me.
ReplyDeletelove your blog.. by the way i do have my blog too!

In one of your videos you said that you should use gel liner for waterline lining (lots of lining haha :D). Are all gel liners good for that? I've got this Maybelline studio-something gel liner, do you think that would be safe for the eye? I checked online and it said it's contact-lense safe. So that basically means it's safe for your eyes, too, right? :P Hope you answer my question. Thanks! :)))
ReplyDeleteHey! I just wanted to say that I just started watching your videos and you are one of my favorites! You have honest and you seem to really care if your viewers get bang for their buck. You also seem incredibly kind, and I love that you thank your viewers for their time. How considerate!!
ReplyDeleteToo bad, I was excited for this palette.
ReplyDeleteI hope they make one with more matte shades. I just use shimmer to highlight my inner corner and the center of my lids.
Don't get how you can review an Item that you have not actually bought, used and worn for a period of time??? Also Bobbi Brown may not like shimmer products but her customers obviously do, she is simply giving her customers what they want otherwise they will go else where...
ReplyDeleteI think with 20 plus years experience in the makeup field he knows a little bit more on pigmantation and shimmer and how it works without him needed to buy it or try it. Also, like he said it goes by prefrence. So I don't see why you are being negative about it, if you like it just buy. I would not spend my money on it I rather listen to someone with experience.
DeleteHi Wayne. Do you do private consultations? I am often in the UK and would really love your guidance in choosing makeup, application for my face shape, etc. My apologies in advance if you do not do this or are insulted by the question! I really have learned so much from your YouTube channel and appreciate your time and excellent information! Thanks a million! Bestest for a great rest of the summer.
ReplyDeletePackaging plays a very heavy role in marketing and by the time you realize it sometimes it is too late ... thanks for the review,I also dislike metal like glitter for the eyes.
ReplyDeletei recently bought this 2 weeks ago, prior to reading your review. i am a makeup newbie. i have no makeup palette, well one that my daughter plays with, so scratch that. this bobbi brown is my first real palette, and its been sitting in my table for 2 weeks, only once used. cute packaging though, but uhmmm i dunno how to start with it... i have dark undereyes (and dark lids) so some colors in this palette doesnt show up nicely. it makes my eyelids "more dark"..
ReplyDeleteanyway i just wanna say i love your tutorials. im just starting to learn how to put on my makeup and ive been looking at some YT tutorials, but yours are the best. Thank You for sharing your passion in Makeup :)

I recently discovered your YT channel & have watched just about everyone of them. I appreciate them because they're short, honest and informational. After reading this review though, I felt compelled to point out that Bobbi's all about looking pretty and natural. Her sparkle shadows work well for women (or men) who want a little bling on their eyes that's not "over the top" or aging for mature lids. I don't have wrinkly lids but I don't think I can nor do I want to pull off a MAC glitter look . I love all Bobbi's shadows and have been using the various textures for years (just recently trying out her cream shadows.) I think in all fairness to her, it would have been nice to point out that people who want a softer look would like this palette.
ReplyDeleteI believe I heard her say in an interview that to be a good makeup artist, you have to be willing to continue to learn and absorb information. What she wrote about roughly 15 or so years ago about shimmers versus how she feels about it now shows she's evolving and not stagnant (a MA whose worked with her recently said the same when I had a makeover at Nordstrom here in the states.) Just a note, thanks.
that looks so lovely~
ReplyDeleteI bought the Sand version of the tortoiseshell palette. this is for fair-medium skinned people (I am NC15 for reference).
ReplyDeleteWhile you do not get much product for your dollar (NZ$135) the shades are lovely, reasonably pigmented, and perfect for a mature lady (I've just turned 40) wanting a subtle, neutral and sophisticated look.
The Sand palette has 5 matte shades, two shimmer and one sparkle, all complimentary colours designed for layering. With a primer they last all day.
I'd recommend this palette to anyone, but especially fairer, older folk, and those who are less experienced/confident with makeup application.
Reviewing products you only swatch is stupid and redundant. Are you serious?!
ReplyDeleteReally how insulting can you be. What? you want him to wear it. Get real!!!

ReplyDelete"Bobbi Brown Bronze Tortoise Shell Eye Palette" is really awesome. The name itself is very good. I like all the shades. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAre there no more postings in the blog? I really prefer blog posts before videos, because they add information, BUT it is obvious that blogs are much more time consuming. I hope you will find some spare time to update this one :-)
ReplyDeleteVery clean and professional, and your posts are very informative.
ReplyDeleteThank you.

Oh thanks I love your reviews
ReplyDeleteCould it be, that there exist two different palettes in the tortoise collection? The one I bought contains 8 shadows as well, but 4 or 5 are mattte, which I prefer and really beautiful. I love this palette
ReplyDelete..and thank you for your brilliant reviews and tutorials :-)

ReplyDeleteI noticed Bobbi Brown's products are getting smaller and smaller and more and more expensive. I would rather purchase from Laura Mercier or Dior. They don't rip you as BB.
